Sunday MumDay

We mentioned yesterday that you're on your own if you haven't yet made
Mother's Day plans.  Alas, we've decided to take pity on you, mainly
because we're idiots who didn't realize it was up to us to make plans
for mom (she's the mom, right? she takes care of everything...no?).
It's a little late to get reservations at most of the hot spots in town
and besides, those silly prix fixe menus aren't really what we'd
consider to be Broke Girl-friendly. So, we've put together a few
alternative ideas for those of you as lost as we are for Sunday:

Mom's obsessed with the royals. You wouldn't be surprised to discover
she pulled an all-nighter last week watching Will & Kate take the
plunge, all the while thinking when the eff is my daughter going to find a nice boy and settle down (preferably, Harry).  Take her to Huntington Gardens for English Tea
in the Rose Garden Tea Room. It's a little over $10 less than their
Mother's Day brunch (still not dirt cheap, but it's not like you can
take mom to Mickey D's), and there's plenty to fill up on. For
reservations call 626.405.2249.

Er, poor mom has been looking at dad's beer gut for at least the last
10-15 years. Treat her to a little eye candy, mom-style, at the Q&A
with Kenneth Branagh to follow a screening of his Hamlet at The Aero.
If she's from out of town, she'll likely be so excited she saw a
celebrity she won't mind that you failed to feed her. However, if you
feel so obliged you can pop into nearby R+D Kitchen,
where she can exact her revenge on you for all of the times you shunned
her meatloaf by ordering one that's $21.  If this happens, the best
Broke Girl advice we can give you is to pretend you forgot your wallet
(she's morally obligated to love you no matter what, remember?).

Mom often wonders out loud whatever happened to her 'little girl.' You
know, the one who used to make her breakfast in bed (runny eggs, burnt
toast, single carnation).

Remind her by cooking brunch (nostalgia +
money saved = win). Replace the bad scrambled eggs with this recipe, the muffins from here, maybe a little of this (YUM), or, if you're feeling indulgent, some of this (hint: it's peanut butter & banana stuffed).  Rent something like Fried Green Tomatoes and have a good cry while allowing her to wax poetic about what an amazing daughter you were (and, clearly, still are).

What to Wear:

1. Darling Scalloped Sequin Trim Cardi $107.58
2. Oasis Daisy Floral Tea Dress $89.65
3. Frosted White Studs $15
4. Dolce Vita "Jade" Sandals $179
5. Grey Suede Horse Print Purse $20 (we kinda just wanted to work this in because it's adorable, no?)
6. Hansel from Basel Strawberry Top Crew $23
