BGG Crush: Denise Vasi

Let's all be honest -- it's a rare thing to meet a girl who is drop-dead gorgeous, smart, sophisticated, funny, and talented without debating the merits of running her over with your Prius.  It's even less likely that you'd actually want to befriend said woman, but that's exactly what we wanted to do when we met Single Ladies star Denise Vasi.  She's inarguably been blessed with stunning good looks, but they're somehow balanced by her NYC-bred, street-smart mannerisms and, ultimately, her impossible humility.  In short, we have a major girl crush on Denise, so we were pretty excited when she agreed to take time out from the show's insane shooting schedule to answer a few questions for us:

BGG: You might be the prettiest girl we’ve ever seen. Are there any beauty secrets you’ve got squirreled away that we should know about?

DV: That's a very generous compliment!  Thank you. Last October, I went on The Clean Program.  It's a 2-day cleanse, and the benefits are amazing. I felt lighter and clearer. It's not about losing weight, it's about ridding your body of toxins. My skin glowed, the whites of my eyes were super white, and I had so much energy. I can't wait to do it again!

BGG: Do you have any favorite drugstore products?

DV: Tons! I love drugstores. I like to go really late when no one is there so I can read ingredients. I'm the girl with every drugstore reward card. My favorite drugstore product is Maybelline's EyeStudio Lasting Drama Cream Pencil Eyeliner. I also love L'Oreal's True Match line.

BGG: Which 3 things are always in your purse?

DV: Sunglasses, ChapStick, and hand lotion.

BGG: Where are your favorite places to shop on a budget?

DV: The obvious one is H&M. I try to go first thing after they've opened when things are still well-organized. I also love sites like HelloParry.com and Missguided.com.

BGG: Is there a bargain purchase you’re particularly proud of?

DV: A couple of years back, I bought a small Chanel chained purse. It's a shape they don't make anymore, and I bought it for like $300 at a vintage/resale shop in Soho, NYC. It was such a score!!!

BGG:  Were you ever a "broke girl"?  Did you ever struggle as you pursued your dream?

DV: Absolutely! Modeling and acting aren't exactly steady means of income. Sometimes you're on a roll and working a lot, and sometimes you're running on a dry spell. I've seen both sides of that coin. I come from a hardworking, blue-collar family. I understand the difference between necessity and want.

BGG: And now you're starring in a TV show!  Can you tell those of us who didn’t catch season 1 of Single Ladies a little bit about the show?

DV: Single Ladies is a comedic drama that follows the lives of Raquel, Keisha, and April, three best friends living in Atlanta, with three different views about life and love.

BGG: What’s your favorite thing about being a part of Single Ladies?

DV: There are so many reasons why I love being a part of this show. For one, we are showcasing the city of Atlanta, something that no other show has done before. I also love how the relationship between these women is portrayed. No matter what the situation is, and despite the fact that all three women have very different opinions, they always stick together. They have each other's "back!" It's always refreshing to see stories that depict true friendship between women. Lastly, I love how fashion-conscious the show is, especially with my character, Raquel. We're either establishing new trends or demonstrating how to wear current trends. And because the three women are so different, you'll see three different variations depending on each character's personal style, budget, and age.

BGG: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

DV: Work hard! Stay humble!

BGG: Do you have any advice to give to all of the single ladies out there?

DV: Stop looking at being single as such a negative thing. It's actually a beautiful time where you can selfishly focus on yourself. The time a woman spends alone, outside of a relationship, is so vital to the woman she is in a relationship.  You have to spend time dating yourself in order to truly understand what you desire from a partner. You also have to know how to make yourself happy because inevitably, if you can't make yourself happy on your own, then no one can!
