BGG Blogger of the Week: Monica Barleycorn
You may or may not remember that we launched a style blogger series last month, in which we featured interviews with several fashion bloggers from around the world. Beginning today, you can now find similar interviews posting to the site every Monday. To kick things off, we asked our latest style crush, Monica Barleycorn of North Yorkshire in the UK, to fill out the following questionnaire:
Best bargain stores.. I'd probably have to say Primark for bargain clothing, but I spend a lot of time on eBay and love charity shopping.
Favorite item in your closet.. My nude blouse! It is an incredibly versatile and timeless piece, and yet it is so simple. I'm guilty of outfit repeating a lot with it! I bought it in a high street sale last year and it has served me well ever since. Its something that I can see myself wearing for many seasons to come!
Must-have clothing item for 2012.. I'm loving pastel shades for SS12 -- particularly nudes, spearmint and lilac. I'll be experimenting with pastel blouses, colourful shorts, and pleated skirts.
It is okay to splurge on.. Jeffrey Campbell Litas. They are worth every penny!
Keeping up with the latest trends on a budget.. I'm a massive fan of eBay and Etsy. I like to find different pieces that still fit current trends -- particularly vintage clothing. Trends seem to come back, so it's great to find unique items of clothing or jewellery that not everyone else has. I like a bit of individuality.
Describe the style in your town/city... I live in a very scenic seaside town in North Yorkshire, UK. I'm very lucky to be able to shoot in such beautiful locations when blogging about my outfits. I'm hopefully moving down to London later this year to attend London College of Fashion. I'm excited for the change -- however, I'll miss the beautiful countryside.
Your dream job.. I've applied to study fashion management at university, so my dream job would be a role in fashion marketing or merchandising. I'd love to travel the world, attending catwalk shows, and be inspired by street style. I'm also a keen writer, so that is something I'd like to incorporate into my career.
Your go-to night out outfit.. I've always found dressing for nights out to be quite difficult. I think it's hard to find the balance between being comfortable and fashionable for a night out. I'm a fan of fishtail skirts and dresses, and embellished crop tops. My outfit is never complete without huge heels to finish it off.
What you would wear to a job interview.. I think I'd wear a simple blouse (maybe my nude blouse), with a statement skirt - perhaps a leather plated one. I think its important to look classy but also show off your own style. And the finishing touch -- heels.
The most played song on your iPod.. I listen to a lot of my best friend's music, Shona Mairi, she's an aspiring singer. You can find her here!
