BGG Weekly Playlist: The Mindy Project, Pop-Up Shopping & Scotch
The FNO, the RNC, and the DNC are all behind us, so it’s time for a little R&R, right? Now that all of our high-strung fashion friends have abandoned us for the east coast, we’re free to gallivant around town sans posse—and we’re sort of psyched about the solo time. Plus, there’s plenty of fodder for fun out there this week, so envy not your NYFW friends; they're the ones that should have FOMO!
Monday
Industry girls, get ready to pull some strings. The Paley Center is hosting its preview of new fall TV shows and tonight (FOX’ night) is your chance to peep The Mindy Project before anyone else. It’s open to the public—but sold out. No strings to pull? (We feel you.) The entire evening’s panels are streaming on Livestream. For free.
Next, grab some French charcuterie and wine at brand-new WeHo spot Gorge. Later, head to Cat & Fiddle for a special encore of their summer Monday Movie Nights. Those Cheshire cats have been keeping the movie selection a secret, but are still dropping major hints.
Hit play: Blouse - Videotapes
Tuesday
Stop off at La Otra Taqueria Escuela after work for delicious tacos—and don’t forget to BYOB. Then, cross the street into The Grove to see the one and only Tim Gunn. He’s signing copies of his newest book Tim Gunn’s Fashion Bible at Barnes and Noble.
Hollywood aficionados: head up to the Pickford Center where the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is opening up (for once) and giving tours inside their vaults for a pittance ($5). Then, stick around to watch the Academy’s new print of The Mark of Zorro (1920). After, stay in character by grabbing a drink at the classic Hollywood haunt, Formosa Café, where you can rub elbows with the ghosts of Frank Sinatra and Humphrey Bogart.
Hit play: RAC - Hollywood
A veritable dream team of post-punk greats are taking over The Greek on Wednesday for a co-headline performance from Blondie and DEVO. Before the show, have an early dinner of farm-fresh, delicious food at Canelé in Atwater Village. After, unwind at Covell in Los Feliz where they’ve made menus obsolete: after a brief conversation about your oeno likes and dislikes, bartenders select each wine by the glass especially for you.
Into some harder stuff? Then spend your night at Lawry’s, where they’re hosting a scotch tasting—with small bites—all for $39, including tax and tip. Who knew you could leave that place without maxing out your credit cards?
Hit play: Blondie – Heart of Glass
Thursday
Broke girls who live and work in Pasadena have certainly hit the jackpot this fall. With the city’s Locals Only promotion, enjoy discounts and promotions on shopping, food, beverages, and entertainment every Thursday in September and October. Want a complimentary deep condition? What about 10% off Linus bikes? Or a complete pamper at the Body Shop? Simply present your ID or business card and it’s all yours.
Residents of L.A. proper, dry those tears; there is plenty of fun for you yet in our fair city. Start your night by tasting the brand-new cocktail menu at The Churchill for signature drinks from a Soho House and Tasting Kitchen vet. Then, go to Rachel Z on Robertson for a pop-up shopping and beauty event benefiting I Am That Girl. After their potent cocktail of glammed-out pampering—hair styling by Blow Angels, nails from Bellacures, and drinks from Hpnotiq—you'll be looking just as fancy as a fashion week castaway.
Hit play: Azealia Banks – Licorice
