BGG Weekly Playlist: Stargazing & Nightswimming
Your wish, dearest Broke Girls, is our command. By popular demand, we’re bringing our Weekender series to your weekdays -- and adding a killer soundtrack to boot. Welcome to the BGG Weekly Playlist, your guide to surviving and thriving through the week. Just sit back, hit play, and coast through ‘till Friday.
Monday
We’re all about seeing stars tonight. First, swing by the Women in Film happy hour at Capital Grill. The good news is that talk (especially in Hollywood) is cheap, and entry to the event is totally free. After you’ve consumed more than your fair share of, um, business cards, check out the brand new Sundance Cinemas on Sunset. They’ll officially start playing movies in their extra-plush theaters on Wednesday, but at tonight’s soft open you can sidle up to other fledging cinephiles at the venue’s upstairs beer and wine bar. Or, if you’d rather see literal stars, space out at Griffith Observatory, where they’re hosting one of their rare lectures on the Milky Way.
Hit play: Policia – Dark Star
Tuesday
Begin by giving The Most Important Meal of the Day the attention it deserves. Pinkberry is launching breakfast and to celebrate, they’ll be giving away free Greek Yogurt at participating locations. After work, we’ll be Downtown at Mo-Chica, where we like to order the extra-refreshing, pisco-based Peruvian Maid (not on the menu, aren’t you fancy?). These drinks are pretty boozy, so just have the one and you’ll have cash left over for ceviche mixto or oxtail. After, head to The Orpheum for a 7:30 p.m. nostalgia-fest with the Adventures of Pete and Pete Reunion, complete with episode screenings, cast appearances, and a special performance by Polaris, who are reuniting at the event.
Hit play: Polaris - Hey Sandy
Wednesday
Tonight, you’ll hotel pool hop as only a true broke girl can do. First, grab cocktails at The London in West Hollywood. Their Wednesday happy hours are insanely popular, particularly given the fact that cocktails are free for the first hour (6-7 p.m.). Reserve a spot by calling or emailing the hotel. Whatever you do, however, don’t strip down and start swimming while you’re there. Not only will you likely be ejected, but you’ll also want to save your energy as the Mondrian is hosting Nighttime Swim at Skybar just up the street, with DJs, cocktails, and a little late-night splish splash. In keeping with this theme, vacation disco duo Poolside is playing at The Echo. Close your eyes and pretend you’re Ibiza-bound.
Hit play: Poolside – Only Everything
We would never condone ditching work (a girl’s gotta eat!), but if you happen to find a spare hour or two -- or, say, Fido suddenly really needs a trip to the vet -- head Downtown for the Fashion Truck Sample Sale. Indie designers and our favorite boutiques on wheels are unloading their inventory at great prices from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Later, take a stroll through Yamashiro for their weekly summertime farmer’s market. It’s packed with produce and, hey, the digs aren’t bad either. Not into culinary DIY? Shell out for the West Restaurant Winemaker’s Dinner. After all, Friday is payday and even broke girls deserve to eat well from time to time. Extra points for picking up a hot sommelier -- just think of all the money you’ll save on future wine tastings.
Hit play: Debbie Deb - Lookout Weekend
